Pros

My schedule as an independent contractor is pretty flexible. The manager I have is really awesome to work with. The account I was assigned to pretty much always has work, so I'm never dealing with running out of work like I've had with other companies. StenTel is very clear about how they will be paying you, so there are no surprises, and I've never had an issue getting paid on time. Overall, fabulous company to work for!

Cons

The pay can be somewhat frustrating, but this has absolutely nothing to do with StenTel, but rather the transcription industry in general and trying to stay competitive in a difficult market, so I really don't consider this a con of the company. You are paid for what you do, so you do have control over how much you make. No real cons that I've experienced.

Pros

Great earning potential, managers don't micro-manage, option to work from home, very decent benefits, and almost everyone I've met, colleague or supervisor, is friendly with a happy, fun vibe.

Cons

I honestly can't think of one. For me, this job is ideal.

Pros

A good job to have while looking for a real job. Job should be treated as “paid unemployment”, and not treated as a job you plan on staying at. Mind- numbing work which gives you time to send other applications to real jobs. I put a 5 for work balance because this seems like the only job where you have the time to find another job. It’s better to get paid something for looking instead of nothing.

Cons

Although management hems and haws about how black and white your pay will be, there is a level of misunderstanding that they will not address which always seems to benefit them. I have recently seen them take as much as $400 back from employees on their next check because payroll messed it up the week before. Another red flag is not only seeing a high turnover rate of estimators and transcriptionists; management has started to turnover quickly as well. Another con would be opportunities. There are none. A “promotion” is less than you make at the entry level position, with a heck of a lot more responsibility.
