Pros

In sales, the tenure is typically much less than 5 years. That is about my average tenure. When starting at a new place I am always hopeful that I can find a home with this company. That I can be a part of a team longer than 5 years and build my own business. I have found that at Teradata. I have now been here for 3 years and I am still hopeful that I found a home. Teradata truly does have the best Analytics Data Platform in the industry, by far. They pay well and do a great job in recognizing your hard work and talent. When I first started with Teradata I was wondering why all of these sales folks have been here for 10+ years, which is almost unheard in a medium sized company. I now understand why and look forward to many more years.

Cons

The challenge in sales is to have a good set of accounts that you can sell into. That is not always the case. You can make up for a not so great set of accounts by working harder than the other folks, but it does create more of a challenge to do extremely well. I also love that we have gotten away from having a specific amount of vacation days. This is great for folks first coming into Teradata, because most companies restrict you to 2-3 weeks for the first 5 years. Not Teradata!
