Pros

As far as retail jobs go, this industry beats many others. Good part time job for students.

Cons

Extremely toxic working culture, which included racism, homophobia, transphobia, and classism. No regard for the wellbeing of employees. I was fortunate to have great store managers (worked in two branches), but the supervisors, assistant managers and some of the senior sales associates were very unfriendly and were explicit in their disdain of marginalised communities, colleagues and customers alike. There is also a considerable problem with unconscious bias, especially toward black and brown customers. Despite the onerous diversity and inclusion training mandated by HR, there are continuous occurrences of this behaviour being exhibited. Sexual harassment is not taken seriously, a colleague of mine was sexually assaulted by a colleague, who still this day remains in his position at H Samuel.
