Lack of Direction in IT Management

Pros

Teams and colleagues are supportive Good flexibility in work schedules Supports work-life balance.

Cons

Some decisions in the IT department appear reactive rather than strategic, it is like 'let's try this and see what happens' They are hiring employees and letting them go in short time frame (in months) Before the last two layoffs, leadership was directly asked in an IT all-hands meeting whether there were any plans for staff reductions. They said no and mentioned efforts to retain current employees One last note — during the separation meeting, the manager didn’t show their face on camera, only the top of their head. It felt disrespectful and unprofessional.

Pros

Working here teaches employees how to navigate uncertainty, adapt quickly, and handle unpredictable leadership changes. If you can thrive in this environment, you’ll develop strong problem-solving abilities, patience, and the ability to work under pressure—skills that will serve you well in any future role.

Cons

If you’re considering joining Holt or any of its affiliated companies, it’s important to be aware of the company’s current challenges. Over the past six months, there have been **two rounds of layoffs**, labeled as **“resource reductions.”** While leadership presents these as strategic adjustments, the reality is that job security here is unpredictable. The company frequently shifts direction, leaving employees uncertain about their future. This applies to long term employees as well as those as recently hired as 2 months. IT, which was once an independent and functional department, now **reports through Marketing**. This restructuring has caused confusion, as technical strategy is now managed alongside branding initiatives. IT operations lack a clear roadmap and as one reviewer stated, it seems to focus on the "lets try this now" philosophy. If you were excited about stepping into a specific role, be prepared for unexpected changes. Employees are **frequently reassigned** to completely different positions, often without discussion or the ability to decline. This makes career growth within the company challenging, as employees have little control over their trajectory. The company promotes **Value-Based Leadership**, but instead of fostering professional development, these values are **used as a tool to ensure compliance**. Employees who voice concerns or propose alternative solutions may find themselves labeled as **“out of the values,”** which can negatively impact their standing within the organization. Before accepting a position, it’s worth reviewing employee feedback which is why I assume you are on glassdoor. While negative reviews highlight the struggles employees face, on this platform at least, I've noticed negative reviews are often followed by **suspiciously timed positive reviews**, making it difficult to get a clear and unbiased understanding of the workplace culture. Overall, this company is experiencing **significant instability**, and new employees should carefully weigh the risks. If you’re looking for a workplace with **strong leadership, structured growth opportunities, and reliable job security**, this may not be the right fit at the moment.

Great Training, Poor Follow-Up

Pros

Holt has some of the best and varied training out there that is paid for free. The company really holds to their Values Based Leadership concept, which is good. The people were also good to work with if you held up your own end.

Cons

The follow-up to the training was not so good especially since most of the software is outdated and a lot of processes were manual. The warehousing for parts/goods on the project management side is non-existent and disorganized. Personal conflicts were not handled as good as they could have been. Pay was substandard and you were forced to work multiple roles.
