Please Beware of Poor Upper Management
Pros
The work you do to help families and kids within the community.
Cons
My job experience was very different than what was advertised in my interview. Not only were offers and opportunities once mentioned in our interview revoked at the time requested, but I soon realized that there are no true opportunities for advancement. I also found that Life Applied's founders, Marco and Barbara often created a hostile environment. In my position I witnessed bully-like tactics used by both managers to scare employees into doing what they wanted. I've heard the owner Barbara tell employees that they couldn't speak their native language (Spanish) on their lunch - which is highly illegal, have seen them belittle employees by yelling at them on the phone to make sessions when family emergencies occurred and much more. While my time wasn't long, I was able to understand there is no true HR department - meaning you would have to go to the founders for any problems you may have had internally but their inability to properly manage did not create a safe place for employees to bring forth their problems. While the work they do for the community has value, my departure was soley based on the culture and environment that was cultivated by the close nit relationship of both founders as they are husband and wife. In my personal experience Marco had requested my department to do multiple tasks that made Barbara's job easier due to personal problems that would occur between them two when she would become stressed. This was my understanding that our entire department, and company favorably catered the workload of one individual vs the majority and cause of the business. Finally, I would like people to know this company does not offer any paid vacations for employees unless worked more than one year and will offer healthcare coverage but will drop the rate they pay you if you take their insurance.
