Pros
I didn't have to do much, just hold down a chair. Great work/life balance because there wasn't much work. Awesome benefits--a retirement program that rivalled the TSP.
Cons
I used to love working at MITRE, so it truly pains me to see them falling to pieces. But man, they needed these huge RIFs. MITRE had become a difficult place to survive, bloated with tech professionals that were expected to find their own work within the company. The stellar MITRE of the 20th century had become a flailing and sinking pig in the 21st. So! Much! Waste! on stupid things like million-dollar parties, never-ending hiring of VPs with nothing to do, and executive retreats...the exact things that people complain about when they mention government waste. Instead of being responsible stewards, MITRE was an example of "don't let this happen to you." Old CEO drove MITRE off the rails; new CEO drove the final nail into the coffin.
