Pros

Remote work and annual company trips

Cons

This company overworks its employees and has unrealistic expectations. The workload doesn’t match the time given to resolve issues, and even managers seem unable to handle it. This company is very disorganized, constantly changing and implementing new rules almost every week! The micromanagement is excessive—managers still hop into emails or ask to be CC’d even after 1–2 years. No one speaks up because management sees feedback as complaining, and the team doesn’t work together to speak up on work issues. The job offers flexibility, but that’s about it. To be favored here, you basically have to make this job your entire life and personality. This might be my most frustrating job, but people overlook the downsides because it’s remote. There are better options out there—keep searching.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your perspective, as it helps us understand areas where we can improve. We also recognize that remote work and annual company trips are aspects that many of our employees enjoy, and we're glad they’ve stood out as positives for you. Regarding your concerns about workload and unrealistic expectations, we understand that balancing priorities can be challenging. Our goal is always to ensure that our employees have the support and resources needed to succeed. While we strive for efficiency, we also understand that workloads should align with achievable timelines. If at any time you felt overwhelmed, we encourage open communication with your manager to explore ways we can work together, and we regret that you felt unable to communicate this at the time. As for the comment of micromanagement, we do place a high value on communication and collaboration across teams. Feedback and oversight are crucial in maintaining quality, and we try to balance that with trust in our employee’s autonomy. We also recognize that some roles require more oversight than others in order to uphold the quality and experience for our clients. It's important to us that employees feel empowered and not micromanaged, and we are committed to fostering an environment where feedback can be given constructively and is taken seriously. On the subject of company changes, we acknowledge that our industry requires agility and adaptability, but we understand how constant changes can feel overwhelming for some. We aim to make transitions as smooth as possible, and we’re always working on improving how we communicate changes so our teams feel more informed. We also want to clarify that while we highly value dedication to the company, we respect our employee's work-life balance. We do not expect employees to make their job their entire life, but we do encourage passion and commitment to the work at hand. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. We’re committed to creating an environment where everyone can grow and thrive.

Pros

This position allows you to use your creativity and to challenge yourself daily. You get to work with a lot of well known brands, so it is also very rewarding to see the work you do come full circle. If you’re willing to put forth the effort, MRL will provide you with everything you need to become a successful industry professional. The office environment is great too - awesome location, music playing, happy hours, fun Friday’s, etc.

Cons

This position is very fast paced and very detail oriented. You will have to work hard to succeed.

Pros

Relationships with fellow co-workers. Everyone bonded over how poorly they were treated.

Cons

This was not a healthy establishment to work at and I would not suggest working here.I love the promotional products industry but my time at mrl promotions was unbearable. If you like to be micro-managed and constantly put down by a tyrant this is the perfect position for you. Every employee is expected to copy the owner of the company, Mr Levitt, on all emails and were critiqued often. Mr Levitt is very involved and had zero trust in any of his employees which is why he would expect everyone to copy him on the emails. A compliment was far and few between. There is no real HR position so there is no proper person to report concerns and issues to. You will be looked down upon and told to "toughen up" if you chose to speak up. You are also shunned for taking any paid time off. Mr Levitt would preach positivity yet consistently put his employees down, point fingers and never have the employees backs. It was like walking on eggshells every single day around Mr Levitt. The office culture was purely toxic brought on entirely by Mr Levitt. Account managers were pinned against each other by Mr Levitt often creating a divide amongst teammates. There were zero incentives or bonuses offered. You can give it your all and the hard work would still will not be acknowledged. Expect to put in a lot extra hours and not be properly compensated. There is absolutely zero flexibility in working from home because Mr Levitt does not trust his employees. Simply put, Mr Levitt is a big bully and his victims are his employees. Due to all of these issues this company has an extremely alarming turn over rate. In my time there I witnessed dozens of employees quit because they could not take it any longer. The lifespan for an account manager position is roughly 3 months. There was no movement within the position because so many people quit. There is absolutely NO GROWTH within this company. Do not expect anything more than the bare minimum yearly raise. My current employment has taught me that a true leader encourages their employees and makes them feel empowered and supported. I am posting this in hopes it can inform those who do not want to suffer in an extremely toxic work environment.

Thank your for taking the time to provide detailed feedback. MRL was undergoing a massive transformation at this time between our new ERP technology system and doing a re-org to create a better team structure. It’s absolutely understandable that some may not agree with or like too much change at one time. This is why it’s important to communicate any frustrations or concerns to your Manager or leadership. These conversations help bring more clarity to an evolving situation. Company-wide meetings and weekly team meetings over ZOOM make it more challenging for some to speak up but that has not stopped other MRL employees from doing so and we are extremely appreciative of that. Over 50% of the company was working remote during this time, and presently over 85% of the company is remote. Pay increases are a default and bonus is earned by performance. To the contrary of your comments, we will continue this way of working and flexibility, as it’s been a big part of our growth. Turnover is typical for startups and companies in growth mode and, while there has never been “dozens quit” here, we do recognize that there will always be a few people who weren’t a good fit but we take that as lessons learned and aim to do better the next time around. There are countless examples of individuals we’ve taken a chance on who have exceeded our expectations so we will continue to take the risk from time to time. Most of our current employees have long tenure here and many started their careers here and have grown into Senior, Director, and VP roles. In addition, upward mobility is a key focus, and I am proud of our success and track record. The people who have grown their career at MRL is super impressive. I am sorry you didn’t get the chance to grow your career at MRL and thank you again for taking the time to convey your views. Wishing you the best of luck with your new endeavor.

Toxic work culture

Pros

I always say working at this company made me appreciate what I have now. There will always be stressful days at work, but nothing will ever compare to the day-to-day stress that was brought on by the internal staff at MRL.

Cons

If you are reading this, then you will probably be reading all the other reviews before this. All the ones that are REAL, and not written by the owner or a forced review by a current employee (the only reviews that are actually 4 or 5 stars)…the real ones are not written by disgruntled employees or ppl out to get the owner, they are in fact true statements. Working at MRL, was unhealthy and not normal. Save yourself the energy and healing, and do not work here. They may sell you the dream, but it is never going to happen. The owner is a micro manager, manipulative and I’ve watched him have no loyalty to his employees. He unfortunately only follows the guidance of the office manager but he doesn’t know most people leave the company because of the office manager. She gossips about every person in the office and shares very personal details to other coworkers. She pretends she’s there to help you and has your back, but she only uses your situation to her advantage. I wish I could say the cons of the office was the job itself, but it wasn’t. I love my job. The flaws are the people the owner hires and until he opens his eyes, it will always be toxic.

Pros

Company is full time remote Great Team - all willing to help - all generally work hard

Cons

Upon hiring you'll be told you'll take a hit to your EGO. Heavily micro- managed to the point - emails need to be checked prior to being sent. Emails often are edited if same verbiage isn't shared with management No time to learn the role, thrown in Executive management - has know it all attitude - does not trust in team to complete their respective responsibilities. Unrealistic expectations for time management/ and white glove service required for every account - with extremely heavy work load Work load mis-managed. Everything becomes a problem by executive management - loss of focus on true issues that require attention. Unnecessary fire drills All team member's aren't held to the same standard. No consequences for employee's who continually do not follow procedure, and disrupt the work flow process on a day in and out basis Long meetings without an resolve Multiple managers, all hands in the pot to micro manage other employees Loss of visibility - do not have the proper tools to complete scope of the job responsibilities Repetitive conversations with management with suggestions to improve time to complete job, efficiency. Advised will be supported, and changes will transpire. Suggestions are left open ended- and stay on a list to " look into" for years
