Pros

Supporting young people is rewarding Some colleagues are great - supportive, driven and work well as a team Some flexibility Goood training/cpd (but not progression)

Cons

As others have said management is problematic in a number of ways, particularly micromanagement. I've seen bias within the organisation/team. I've felt overworked at times and the true value of work isn't reflected in pay. Pay varies among people doing the same job. You can clock up a lot of TOIL but taking this off leads to a cycle of playing catch-up. If they had to pay overtime they might have more realistic and better thought-out expectations. Little opportunities for progression especially for BAME staff. Seems to always be cutting jobs/restructuring.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am pleased to hear that you valued the work, found it rewarding, and had a positive experience with your colleagues and the training provided. I also appreciate your feedback regarding the challenges you encountered, in relation to micromanagement, workload pressures, and limited opportunities for progression. Your insights are invaluable in helping us identify areas for improvement. If you are willing, I would welcome the opportunity to hear more about your experience and any suggestions you may have for enhancing the support we provide to practitioners. Please feel free to contact me at sfriel@nspcc.org.uk. Thank you once again for your time and support. Kind regards, Shaun

Pros

helping children and the half decent salary

Cons

terrible working hours, the only children not helped by NSPCC/Childline are Childline staff- late nights and weekends (all marked up as late evenings- what? 2am?) Then, now, redundancy in some bases with growth in others, all to make the staff profile fit Workforce Management (computer rostering)

Thank you for your feedback. It is a great shame that you have not had a positive experience of the NSPCC management. There have been a number of challenging decisions to make and the need to move the organisation forward to reach more children, using the benefits that technology can offer. Change in working practices brings challenges and uncertainty and this will inveitably create anxiety. It is of course never an intention to create a difficult working environment for any employee and we will need to improve how we manage change. The NSPCC's one and only goal will always remain protecting children from abuse, however, we clearly have some learning to do not to fall short of good practices when managing staff. Thank you again for your frank feedback.
