A cog in a machine, not an employee

Pros

The experience you'll gain is absolutely invaluable. SQL and SAS are both extremely useful languages to know and will serve any employee well in their future. The work is generally fascinating and meaningful, and there is ample opportunity to work directly with clients if you're placed on the right team.

Cons

Apart from the long hours (and there are many), management will repeatedly ask you to do jobs above your title with zero increase in compensation and no hint of promotion. Despite clearly outlined benchmarks of what is expected at each employee level, low-level analysts get abused and stretched without getting anything in return. Upper management is aloof and unconcerned- as long as the work gets done, it doesn't matter to them.

Pros

Employees are smart, engaged, friendly, outgoing and always willing to share their knowledge. There is little competition among the ranks, and promotions are easy to come by. Benefits are excellent and there is great opportunity to learn.

Cons

Upper management is terribly inconsistent, detached, has little understanding of what your actual job entails and you will get very little support. You will (at times) have very little work life balance and they will not hesitate to throw additional responsibilities onto your plate and tell you to "just work more" to get it done.

Pros

Interesting work, limited red tape, work-hard-play-hard mentality, and impressive clientele list.

Cons

Everything done here is haphazard. Client timelines are unreasonable. External training does not exist. Potential employees, ask for numerical turnover rate.
