Cons

Management is awful. This higher up they are the more out of touch they are. No one is concerned with helping customers. Managers are constantly taken advantage of and blamed for everything. Its all about sales and numbers. Nothing more. This retailer pays less than almost every other retailer. Most staff does not feel heard. Higher up management just covers for eachother instead of holding eachother accountable. Promotion is unlikely. They often bring in outside employees to be in management instead of promoting from within.

Russell Cellular is one of the most overworked and under supported environments I have ever been in. During holiday season you are forced to work six days a week with blackout periods where you cannot request time off. If you use sick leave they demand a same day doctor’s note like you are trying to scam them. They constantly preach integrity yet push you to mislead customers by not leading with the correct trade in promotions to squeeze more money out of sales. The pressure from management is nonstop even when your store is slow and you have zero control over traffic. You might get lucky with a decent manager but upper leadership is awful and will not have your back no matter how dedicated you are. They care about numbers not people.

Commission can be amazing if you're exceeding targets, and can make for an amazing payday.

I was @ Russell Cellular for almost 6 years. They were not considerate of their employees home life. If someone was unable to show up, it was the managers job to fill the position. I was committed to this job! Rarely ever called in, made it through snow storms, accidents and family emergencies to be at work. My last month of employment, I was going through personal issues, which they could have cared less. I admit, I showed up late or wasn't able to go in at all some days. But I did not get any write up, no warning, nothing. It was an automatic termination. For someone who has shown loyalty for over 5 years, I felt very disposable.

Bad management, to much drama, I had a manager that threatened to write me up for things that are not part of company policy. Or the threat of being fired over things that I would not have actually been fired for. I left due to the manager and walked on eggshells. I was there only 2 months. I was even told she didn't even want to hire me. She only worked maybe half days or 2/3rds of the day for the whole time I was there. Training wasn't that good. They do a lot of training but it's more about how ro sell not the actual many different operations they deal with. The manager barely knew what she was doing either. So when you start working you are clueless, because you have to do this part in this and then this step in this different platform, you can't do this on here, you also can't give the owner of the account very much information on their account. All this company cares about is making commission not the actual customers. I seen so many customers upset because they got snowballed with plans and stuff costing more then what they could afford and there's not much that can be done. They just push it off onto verizon customer service. They also rip you off on pay and any products you buy through the employee purchase program.

I have been employed here for three years. However, the company demonstrably undervalues employee loyalty and dedication, particularly in the wireless sector. Based on my extensive experience within this industry, I strongly recommend seeking alternative employment opportunities.

store atmosphere is great, the district and regional managers treat employees terribly. This is from current employees that are still there in 2024.

Cons

company is consistently forcing full district turnovers to save money and prevent raises.
