Pros

Semar Sentinel is probably the only defence consulting firm in Indonesia. They sell good products, might be the best place to learn if you are dreaming of becoming a defence analyst. Compensation is quite okay for fresh graduate level, however it is not comparable to the work load.

Cons

Limited human resources, no work life balance at all, employees are forced to work beyond the working hours. They do not care about how many hours you work a day, they only need the task to be finished. They do not have HR or legal people within the company, so you have no one to consult when you felt overwhelmed as your superior is your everything: director, HR, and legal. No overtime pay, using 'work from home' and 'entry level does not need overtime pay' as excuses to eliminate the overtime counting system. Company is trying to maintain low budget for employees' salary by hiring more and more interns. As of June 2022, there are more than 10 interns and less than 7 full time employees working for the company. Interns are treated worse than full time employees, as they only received one third of full timer's salary, but with similar amount of workload. No career path at all. There are only intern, full time employee, and director levels within the company. Boss loves to create drama, doesn't know how to treat his employee respectfully, doesn't know how to be grateful to loyal employee, doesn't care about employees' well being. If you have never seen a boss that talks bad about each employees behind their backs, you can find it here. No appreciation no matter how hard you worked for the company. Employees are seen as someone who can be paid cheaply, as the company is operating in the third world country. No exit interview. The management established poor relationship with every single employees resigned from the company, as it believes that it has been treating the employees nicely (claimed to have provided these 'Indonesian citizens' with great salary, using regional basic salary (UMR) as the standard), and labelled all employees quitting as 'betraying' the company.

Pros

Good connections with defense and security stakeholders, encourages critical thinking and time management skills, good place for a first job and to establish your career as fresh graduate. WFH allows flexibility, and the different client profiles mean you learn how to adapt and cater to different perspectives.

Cons

The boss encourages a toxic work environment and untrustworthy relations among the staff. Boss would talk about Employee A with Employee B behind A's back, and vice versa, even using curse words and calling them names. Passive aggressive, which makes it difficult to interpret work tasks, requests, or come up with initiatives. Employee's mistakes will be mentioned and used against them forever (whether the mistake is big or small). Once you make a mistake, any past or future contribution will not be appreciated. 'Meritocratic' model mentioned is more like the 'quiet firing' method, and the extra responsibilities can be uneven between employees. Employees who have the skills & background that fit certain projects may be passed over without explanation, while another can be given multiple responsibilities at once. Both employees and interns are expected to already master everything needed with little training, and training of new recruits often fall to the research analysts. When new recruits' deliverables do not meet expectations, they are removed quick - hence the perpetual understaffed situation. Boss likes to threaten to cut bonuses or salaries without regard for Employment Law, even though the pay is only slightly above DKI Jakarta UMR. Boss would also issue memos when angry, expects staff to comply, then disregards the memos.

Pros

Full WFH policy, so Jakarta UMR applies universally regardless of the employee's domicile. Interesting field with intellectually challenging tasks on the daily basis.

Cons

Endless working hours and unclear division of labor - you're not guided or mentored properly despite being a newcomer and they immediately expect you to perform well and will be punished if you couldn't "perform well". An unsupportive work environment that doesn't encourage employees to show their potential or grow to be better because the boss made it hard to do so; do well, expect a double portion of work, do bad, expect salary loss. The company also has no HR so it's hard for the employees to give feedback to the management.
