Pros

Speechmatics is a great company to work for who really do put their people first. This is something that really stood out to me throughout the hiring process and has continued within my employment too. When I joined the company, everyone was incredibly welcoming, in my own team and beyond which helped me to settle in very quickly. Monthly socials within the office have played a big part in this too giving everyone the chance to meet those in other teams. My manager has made a real effort to ensure that I know what is expected of me within my role and I feel fully supported as well as feeling trusted and having autonomy. The company seem keen to listen to feedback from their employees with regular surveys and two way reviews so that they can improve the experience for all as well as wanting to help people grow within their roles. I have a great work / life balance which is exactly what I was looking for when I joined the company and they completely understand that I have a family and other commitments outside of work. They also offer great benefits which far exceed what I have received in other roles too which is a huge plus!

Cons

The team are spread over two offices so everyone isn't in the same place at the same time, however this is outweighed by the benefit of hybrid working. They also host regular social events to ensure that people do have the opportunity to get together.

Pros

- Supportive work environment; nearly every person is positive, kind, energetic, and collaborative. - Work culture has a lot of appetite for changing and improving; people aren't afraid to suggest and try new things that make work and life better. - Lots of incentive to learn; high L&D budget, managers support training and coaching. - Lots of care about diversity and inclusion, the company may not be the very best at being diverse and inclusive yet but there is a very strong spirit to learn, improve, and uplift people who advocate for d&i, and overall the culture is great. - C-team is generally humble, thoughtful, communicative, approachable, and competent. - Product is genuinely really cool and works well.

Cons

- Engineering culture could be better; it's improving and continuing to get better over time, though. eg having better training for managers so that they can support their teams very well, having more consistent processes across teams. Engineering culture is not the most mature I've worked at yet but is moving in the right direction, and it's ok for a startup. - The product sits in a very competitive space so engineering needs to move very fast to keep the product performing the best of all its competitors, eg dropping projects that aren't finding market fit, occasionally pivoting, trying new things that upend a quarterly plan. Not necessarily a con (many people find this exciting and normal startup behaviour) but something to be aware of because you need to stay on your toes, you can't just coast.

We're investing in manager training and are launching 2 new modules of manager training later this year which all managers which attend in person. Pros

We have a great tech team, who are really able to push some of the accuracy, even against some large competitors. We also have several C-suite members who are in it for the long haul and really understand our market, rather than just getting in people who don't know what they are talking about.

Cons

Tech can be a bit of a scary world with all the innovation, and this is true at Speechmatics as well.

Pros

Speechmatics offers excellent perks and is filled with great people who create a positive and collaborative work environment. The team is hardworking and committed to achieving goals, driving innovation at the forefront of technology in ASR (automatic speech recognition) and conversational AI.

Cons

Transparency is definitely improving, however clearer communication from top down would help ensure alignment and better understanding of priorities across teams
