Pros

Significant variety of work, and anyone can have a go! Overwhelming demand for product from customers, despite terrible reputation for missing deadlines.

Cons

The Highlights - Company Wide: - Significantly high turnover of staff, both office and factory based. - Office staff have restricted access to the internet, because management fears hacking of company IP. - No remote working allowed for same reason as above. - the MRP system is custom made, difficult to work with, and has no integration to modern software programs. - Everything is run from MS-Excel, from engineering calculations to production schedules, with no will from management to pay for or use modern production software. - No use of productivity tools due to internet restrictions. The Highlights - Magnet Division: - Main experience & expertise base has either left, retired or looking to leave. - The design and most of the engineering departments are being completely mismanaged, by managers that either don't care for employees, have no will to fight on, or have left for better things. - Payrises past inflation is rare, compensation for adding capabilities through self training is even rarer, and even help towards the right to work is not guaranteed. - A director who will use and abuse everyone under him, past breaking point, until he's got what he needs from them. Without thanks, congratulations, or even a pay rise. He will bring down the division! The Highlights - Gradient Division: Same as above, but doing slightly better!

Pros

The company designs and manufactures critical products for the healthcare and scientific industries. Most of the staff are really nice and approachable incl HR.

Cons

Company and its senior management are very set in their old ways in terms of how they run things. Working from home is forbidden, the infrastructure and facilities are so dated it really makes it a frustrating and demoralising place to work. The design office really lacks any sort of adequate management - basic engineering principles are completely thrown out of the window, hence why the term REWORK is repeatedly mentioned e.g. drawings are not checked, basic GD&T is not applied and there is no formal training offered - one literally has to learn-on-the-fly. There are no formal processes in terms of how things are designed, released and manufactured, excel spreadsheets dominate - truly COWBOY-style. Management does not take any feedback onboard and they don’t listen to their staff in order to improve things then act surprised as to why there is such a high rate of staff turnover. I really had been expecting so much more out of this company but there was nowhere to go in terms of changing things and any sort of opportunity for career progression is nothing but a pipe dream.
