I cried in the mornings before work

Pros

A couple of people in my immediate team were really lovely, as with any team. They've got a good knowledge of tooling so I got to try lots of new tools.

Cons

They paid me as little as possible. No culture of listening to ideas from junior people. It's like being on a boys' trip - only the men get a say. There is workplace bullying from insecure people and no support to help the bullies or the bullied. Virtually no HR. They don't believe in doing things to a good standard - things are done as cheaply and quickly as possible. They’ll use the word ‘lean’ to justify shortcuts. They also lied about my experience level when they outsourced me to clients: my hours were quoted as Senior with industry standard Senior rates while my contract referred to me as Junior and my salary was below junior rates. They don't offer any education or skills growth, you'll grow if you're friends with the boss otherwise you're stuck.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We strive to pay industry-standard salaries, within our industry vertical, as far as possible. Based on an associate level (above Intern) we believe that the salary was appropriate based on the level of skill and experience within the marketing execution team. We encourage diversity, as an example currently over 30% of our team is female with the majority in senior leadership roles. We can always do better and aim to continue to grow across all areas of diversity. We are deeply disappointed and sorry to hear that you felt bullied and not heard. It is unfortunate that during your two-year employment with us that you felt you could not make use of our grievance policy and process and that you did not feel comfortable talking to your manager or your immediate teammates that you felt close to. We would have loved to get your feedback immediately during your daily check in’s, monthly 1:1’s, monthly pulse surveys, and performance reviews. You could have also made use of our wellness and coaching partner programs. Since agile promotes greater speed and continuous feedback, it allows teams to adjust and adapt marketing campaigns when desired, rather than committing to a long, inflexible campaign. This puts a greater priority on customer needs and allows teams to measure the impact of their efforts before campaigns become outdated. This can sometimes feel ‘quick’ as it promotes greater speed and continuous feedback. All scopes of work are signed off by clients with full transparency into the full teams working on them and the costs associated with that work. Often scopes our outcomes-based and not specific to the individuals working on them as this can often change pending the project team and deliverables. Resilience is one of our company values and we place high expectations on being a self-starter, knowing how to move past difficulties and finding alternative solutions to accomplish objectives. We encourage each employee to bring their A-game and demonstrate their unique superpowers while making use of the free online courses, training material and programmes we offer. Not all engagement events are for everyone it would have been great for you to initiate some of your own, we love this kind of thinking, or join some of the ‘non-party’ type events. We encourage a healthy referral programme when it comes to employment. Often, the best talent comes from within, who else knows our business, our culture, our clients, and our team best than the team members who already work here.

One of our company values includes practising candid and constructive feedback. It is unfortunate when ex-employees who have chosen not to use the various channels, platforms and support structures provided by the company to raise concerns during their employment choose platforms like Glassdoor to ventilate their opinions in a non-constructive and damaging manner. We are deeply disappointed and sorry to hear that you had such a negative view towards the company and the business operations. It is unfortunate that during your employment with us that you felt you could not make use of our grievance policy and process and that you did not feel comfortable talking to your manager. We would have loved to get your feedback immediately during your daily check in’s, monthly 1:1’s, monthly pulse surveys, and performance reviews. You could have also made use of our wellness and coaching partner programmes to support you with your feelings of overwork and balance.

Thank you for your feedback ex-QA team member. We are big supporters of QA and it definitely has its place! Unfortunately, not all feedback can be implemented as we need to also consider business, client and market conditions. Because businesses have to operate in a rapidly changing environment, more companies are turning to cross-functional teams to foster innovation and stay competitive in the market. In response to this, we have adopted our approach to building cross-functional teams in product development to break down the silos (organizational barriers that sometimes exist between different departments or team members) and foster more collaboration. The members of cross-functional teams are often chosen based on their skills and expertise necessary to contribute to the common results. It does not mean that the individuals in it must know everything; it rather means that such a team is fully capable of developing and supplying a complete product. We believe that this approach will foster long-term growth and more skills development opportunities for individuals.
