Very good org to work for

Pros

Meaningful work, not overworked, "flexible fridays" - 4 day work week (4 8s, not 4 10s), feel valued, feel safe, regular international meetups (at least once a year), very inclusive and progressive work place, minimal meetings

Cons

Despite not feeling obligated to "overwork", there is a long backlog of stuff to do that might encourage overworking one's self. Very cluttered calendar that makes knowing which meetings to actual go to harder than I think it should be. Slightly lower salary than "industry standards" (but not by a ton), but sorta expected given its a non profit org.

Pros

Fully remote work: no butt on chair timer, flexible, avoid bad weather during commute Deliverable based evaluation: work life balance, typically no expectation to be immediately available Global pay: the compensation is not determined by where you live, nice if you are living in a region with lower cost of living Previously have severe sexual misconduct incident: In the annual Tor developer meetup, every employee have a dedicated room, regardless how many bed there are in there. When travel for work, no expectation to share room with others (this is nice even just for COVID/transmittable disease prevention) No training: Other than some specific project like Tor Browser(Application Team), standardized tool are used making experience transferable; jump right into a tasks and projects; and yes you got paid time to learn things on your own No KPI or variable rate pay: No pressure to work on things that are most shiny and receive most attention(or impact), just do things in your own pace Political alignment: There is no hiding that Tor Project's current management team like US Democrat party more than other parties, and yes, many employees would love that 4 days week: you have one more day with full agency

Cons

Fully remote work: so many nice and kind coworkers, but I don't get to hang out with them very often Global pay: too bad if you are living in an expensive city/region No KPI or variable rate pay: no monetary incentive to work more than absolute necessary, but you may find reason to do so on your own(and don't be too worried if you didn't)
