Company good 'on paper'. Local level varies depending on how bad or biased managers are

18 Mar 2021 - Grill Chef in Leeds, England, England

      Pros

Can transfer between brands, or even just do cover between. Premier Inn discounts

      Cons

If local management is bad, it's going to be unbearable. Even formal complaints get brushed under the rug, as if managers have friends at other local locations, they review it first and will quash it long before it'll reach anyone in HR, or even an area manager (not mine, happened with 3/4 people at the location). Managers bring in their friends to work, so creates a cronyistic atmosphere and personal biases. But, a well run location can be great all the same. So it's very much luck of the draw. They have a tendency to bring in young, 'hot shot' team leader/managers, who think being a good manager is liking to hear the sound of their own voice, or sitting on their phone doing nothing, and then nagging staff for not doing more, so yeah, hit or miss depending on location

      Front of House Premier Inn

      29 May 2021 - Front of House

      Pros

Many employee benefits, including discounts for Whitbread hotels and restaurants.

      Cons

Flexible hours that may be reduced to meet the business needs of the employer. Employer reserves the right to change the place of work (ie to another hotel) where reasonable notice is given

      Good company to work for

      15 Mar 2021 - Server/Waiter in Torquay, England, England

      Pros

Worked there for over 3 years and like the team I work with. My management are easy to talk to. There is support when needed and a lot of autonomy is given to you when waitressing. There’s always a good friendly atmosphere at work and you get to work in a range of areas from waitressing to expo and bar.

      Cons

Hard work is not always rewarded. I work hard and get put on all sorts of shifts over different days. Certain people ring in all the time and get away with it and work wash shifts no weekends. Defiantly can be unfair. Summer is incredibly busy and often there is not enough staff, this is not necessarily the company’s problem but more an industry problem as people come and go often in these types of jobs.

      Top 🔝 Employer 2021

26 Mar 2021 - General Manager in Saffron Walden, England, England

      Pros

I have been in hospitality for most of my adult life and spent a career in different roles in the field around the UK and abroad and must say that Whitbread has been the best company to work with in all these years. Employees are individuals and treated not only fairly but also as top management would like themselves to be. During the first lockdown not only did they top up furlough payments for all its team the company continually find moments of truth to better employee wellbeing. I am proud 🥲 to work for Whitbread and now understand why some team have worked for the same company for 10-15 years. Take a bow top management and keep it up. 👍🏽

      Cons

None that I can honestly think of compared to other hospitality chains in the UK and trust me there is a stark difference.
