Strong culture and growth opportunities in a fast-evolving company with some structural growing pains

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee
      Redwood City, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Box has a strong and inclusive culture that emphasizes collaboration and respect, along with a flat organizational structure that makes it easy to interact directly with management. The company is forward-looking, particularly in its rapid adoption of AI and emerging technologies, and provides substantial opportunities for learning and growth for employees who are proactive and self-motivated.

      Cons

As a company positioned between a startup and a large enterprise, Box can feel ambiguous at times, and employees may be expected to build processes or structure on their own and work outside their formal responsibilities. In addition, some management roles have long tenure, which can reduce advancement opportunities for individual contributors aiming to move into leadership positions.

      Pros

There are a lot of smart and kind people that work at this organization. There’s a lot of opportunity to sell. There is a great deal of time off that is given.

      Cons

Well, the culture at Box claims to be all inclusive and make mom proud. They’re failing those virtues.

      Pros

Box has the best culture of any company I've ever worked for. There is an intentional focus on bringing employees together and everyone is willing to share their experience with other teams and help out where they can. There is also a decent focus on ensuring employees can balance their personal life while still enabling each other to get their best work done.

      Cons

While there are opportunities for advancement and changing roles/departments, the requirements/ability to do so can be difficult and often times will depend on your team and management chain.

      Pros

      - Working with people globally - Friendly / positive work environment - ESPP/RSUs - Good opportunity to learn for newer individuals - Safe for queer people

      Cons

      - Pay raises and promotions have been stagnant since 2020 no matter your performance or increase in scope. - A lot of internal politics - Dishonest leadership - Clout chasing is the king metric - Inefficient and outdated work structures due to constant restructuring and lack of direction - Pay is below market value - Poor work/life balance, leadership expects everyone to work weekends and nights
