What is a typical working day like at Centene?

Pros

- The company is trying to help some of America's most needy people - Recent shift to more flexible working conditions (e.g. work from home) is a big plus - Pay is pretty decent compared to other companies

Cons

- Too many people with competing agendas and little interest in collaborating - "One CenTeam" is a pipe dream at this point. - Lack of organization and clarity on priorities at varying levels - Bad "leaders" (at all levels) are left in place for too long. - Too many people are not pleasant to work with and negatively impacting others. Unfortunately, this seems to be getting worse, when many were hoping it would get better with a new CEO.

Advice to Management

The new CEO needs to accelerate shift towards more positive and collaborative culture. There needs to be a mechanism in place for senior management to better understand which "leaders" need coaching or shifted to a different role/company... 360 degree reviews, for example.

What is the hiring process like at Centene?

Pros

Starting pay, remote work (which they were adamantly against until a chunk of the company pushed back), paid holidays

Cons

low raises, terrible bonuses, hiring process takes forever, bad leadership (directors and above fail to communicate with anyone below them or mislead them, leaving everyone out of the loop, executives push for constant increase in productivity even when profit goals are exceeded and then dodge questions about why raises are low).

Advice to Management

Pay your workers what they're actually worth, not what shareholders and executives think they're worth. Treat your workers like people and not machines. Try being transparent about policies instead of gaslighting and lying. Speed up the hiring process

What is working from home like at Centene?

Pros

I enjoy the people and the work. The benefits are good, pay is as expected, PTO time is fair, and you can work from home or the office.

Cons

It's a big company. I've always liked working for a large company rather than a small one since the benefits are usually better but I wonder if it isn't TOO big. We've been waiting months and months for something that was promised at the beginning of the year. Why? I need help and training with some software but the team that supports that software emailed me a pamphlet I got off the internet. That's not training! There are a lot of teams and it's hard to find the help I need. Overall, I'm satisfied with the work I'm doing but it could be better.
