How are the career development opportunities at HubSpot?

      Pros

Great perks like unlimited holiday policy, temporary mobility.

      Cons

Compensation is below average for some roles. No future career growth, very little promotions happening in some departments.

Smart people, broken (or lack of) systems

      Design lead
      Current employee

      Business outlook

      Pros

There are incredibly talented people doing their best under pressure, and peer-to-peer collaboration can be a bright spot. Some teams find moments of momentum, and the benefits—at least historically—were strong on paper. Flexibility exists in theory, though using it without judgment depends entirely on your org and manager.

      Cons

Work-life balance is regularly compromised by unclear priorities, endless pivots, and performative urgency. Leaders talk about innovation and empowerment but rarely back it with consistent action. Efforts that challenge the dominant narrative are shut down or ignored, no matter how well-supported. AI is the new internal buzzword, but what’s being built often solves executive optics—not customer problems. Real opportunities for transformation are dismissed in favor of flashy but hollow features. Gates are disguised as “collaboration,” but operate as blockers with no transparency. Design and engineering are frequently set at odds, with leadership decisions reinforcing silos rather than breaking them. Raises and career growth are inconsistent, and meaningful promotions are increasingly rare unless you’ve secured a high-level sponsor. DEI work has been deprioritized, and discrimination—both overt and subtle—is still present and often left unaddressed. Meanwhile, some benefits have quietly been reduced or restructured, with little explanation. It’s a culture that rewards loyalty to leadership over impact or integrity.

      Rapid Growth, and great culture

      Growth specialist
      Current employee
      London, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

The HubSpot office culture is genuinely unmatched in the tech space. People are incredibly supportive, and welcoming. It is a high-energy environment where you get to sell a product that is constantly leading the market. The career development opportunities and benefits are also good for the UK.

      Cons

The product evolves so rapidly that it can be challenging to stay updated. Keeping up with constant feature releases and new acquisitions requires significant effort outside of standard selling hours. At times, the pace of change can feel overwhelming for those who prefer a more static environment.

      - Some really great people still there who are smart, collaborative, hard working and caring - Product teams do a great job launching new features - Decent opportunities for internal career advancement - Remote work flexibility

      Cons

I worked at HubSpot pre-Covid. The energy and support I felt from other HubSpotters way back when was amazing. It got the company through the hard early days of lockdown - then the surge in business that came right after. We supported each other through the good and the bad. HEART wasn't just a culture slogan but how most HubSpotters approached each other and their customers. But then something changed. "High performance culture" came in. Another way of saying we'll get rid of anyone for any reason we want. No more trying to lift up your fellow HubSpotter and supporting each other through challenges and tough times. Micromanagement took over and the vibe turned to Survivor. So many long time employees and leaders have left the company recently. It's become like any other big software company.

Sorry to read this--that's the opposite of what we are trying to do, and you'll see our team is sharing more this week on what employees can expect in terms of investments and growth in the year ahead, so I hope that helps take some of the "sting" or perceived fear out of the messaging and approach on performance, but please keep the feedback coming if it doesn't. -Katie

The HEART is Fading - Still Some Great People, But Leadership Has Lost Its Way

      Customer success manager
      Current employee
      Sydney
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

There are still incredibly smart, kind, and capable people at this company who genuinely care about their customers and colleagues. The product is solid and the flexibility to work remotely is appreciated. Day-to-day peers are the only reason many of us keep going — the camaraderie is real. CS are an exceptionally talented bunch and held to borderline impossibly high standards compared to other teams.

      Cons

Leadership seems to have lost sight of what made this company great. The focus has shifted from genuinely helping customers succeed to driving arbitrary metrics and internal narratives. Customer Success now operates more like a call center — there’s little room left for strategic partnership or meaningful relationships, just an unrelenting push to hit ever-increasing call targets. The pace and pressure are unsustainable, and raising concerns about burnout, quality, or long-term sustainability is often dismissed as negativity. Constant change continues without clear direction or empathy, and morale has noticeably declined. KPIs have been in a constant state of flux. As soon as you adapt and start to feel successful again, they change their mind and pivot. Most of this year has been spent “resetting customer expectations” instead of delivering value and creating stable relationships. Compensation is not competitive given the expectations placed on employees and the rollback of benefits like unlimited leave - particularly concerning with leadership’s demands for higher output. There’s also a constant expectation to “demonstrate impact” by taking on extra initiatives that often fall within leadership’s remit, often without meaningful recognition or reward - mostly you’ll get a shoutout in a meeting or tagged in a Slack post. Career progression is slow and opaque — expect to wait several years for promotion unless you’re comfortable navigating internal politics. Flawed internal processes, communication & organisational structure that create roadblocks for customers and CSMs alike.
