Unfortunately M&S is becoming less and less of a good employer, removing benefits and extra opportunities for people. Firing people for using the discount too much, and the entire company is squeezing the employees for profits, despite record sales.

The following relate to international finance only: - Lack of any kind of leadership. - Fear culture and bullying. - Poor communication, stifling productivity. - Culture of blaming team. - Process improvement is discouraged. - Ownership and accountability is non existent. - Lack of focus on personal development. - Lack of detail in strategic plans. - Poor recruitment process, agreed a salary only to be offered significantly lower during the offer stage. M and S overall: - Work life balance is a myth. - Receiving emails and working across weekends is encouraged. - 3 days in office is mandated and will no doubt increase in time, with business pushing for more Fridays in office. - Challenges with childcare are often overlooked and the overall culture doesn’t reflect the brand. - Value “we say it as it is” is an excuse for people to be rude - There is no ‘one team’ feeling, with individuals generally acting with self interest. - All other responses on Glassdoor are met with a comment “this isn’t the way we do things at M and S”, but clearly it is.

Pension, discount, bonus are all good

The business is scared of any risk, the change management process changes every week and involves about 10 stages. You'll spend 3x the time getting through the process than it took you to write your code change. Then you'll be asked why things are taking so long. Everyone is burnt out and productivity is extremely low. If you like building things, this is not the company for you.

The start of the process was really positive but unfortunately I got to the online application and it wouldn’t allow me to go any further and cut me off and said thank you for the online application but unfortunately this time you weren’t successful but I haven’t gone any further on with applying for the Christmas hours which I’m very eager to get my process Through to the correct person

I emailed the recruitment team and unfortunately nobody has got back to me with regards to helping me move forward with my application. I’m free and I’m ready to work so I’m hoping somebody will get back to me really soon.

Recruitment process was dire. I received no uniform for the duration of my Christmas contract. My colleague number didn't allow me to log into the checkout for the duration of my contract, despite reporting it My contract was extended without discussing with me and I found out by chance. On my last day there, I couldn't check myself in as I'd already been removed from the system It was impossible to get a response from recruitment via email or to contact on the telephone
