      Interview

The interview was very laid back, questions were presented in a friendly manner. It was virtual with two interviewers who took the time to explain the daily tasks and compensation.

      Network Technician Interview

      24 Jan 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Melbourne
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Amazon (Melbourne) in Jan 2021

      Interview

4 HOUR interview in one day as I had issues with my dates. The role was for a network technician interview and I was a senior systems engineer applying for this. Previously had built dcs and also fiber connections. Knew it was a junior level role but just wanted to be a part of Amazon. Interview was held in melbourne 2 interviews with senior managers and 2 with interns ( I suppose are junior and less experienced than I). Yes you heard me. 3 interviews where behavioural questions one was technical . I have a feeling that managers from different backgrounds are intimated by interviewing people smarter than I and do it for process sake. Also feel they will never hire people from their background and similar. This seems to work well in protecting their roles in a big company. Amazon is a big company and there is no way to fix this. On a whole I felt I answered all their questions including technical . You heard me if you drive a manual car, automatic is obvious if you are a network engineer, desktop is obvious if you have been a seniour dc engineer building and commissioning dcs, cabling is obvious. The recruited called to advise that not enough cabling experience, I am thinking beyond fiber patching and testing cables and racking and stacking as well as dealing with vendors this "amazon job is not rocker science " the last inexperiencecd intern, nothing to do with his accent or background, guess he was from South America and had great trouble articulating things clearly, had to ask him to repeat many times.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Behavioral Tell me a time when you realised you did not have the skill to do a task? Tell me a time when you when above and beyond in a task? Tell me a time when you disagreed with a co worker and how did you sort the situation? the other interviews were similar with a twist Technical - osi model? - TCP vs udp? - what happens when you type a website on your browser? - Single mode vs multimode - types of fiber connectors - TCP is part of which layer - how would you test a port that is down on two switches connected by a fiber connection, configuration is good? ans - test fiber/swap/change pairs/change sfps swap switch
