      Project Coordinator Interview

      21 Aug 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Irvine, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Blizzard Entertainment (Irvine, CA) in Jul 2018

      Interview

I had two phone interviews before I was asked to come to Blizzard for an in-person interview. The recruiters for Blizzard are great and truly enjoy meeting the interviewees. I was nervous/excited to meet the Overwatch team but found a very disgruntled and negative group; at least in the Overwatch League department. I was given a tour of the campus as soon as I showed up then I began the daunting 6 person interview. When I was brought into the office there was a TV and a web camera pointed straight at the table and you could see someone wanted to observe the interview. The recruiter immediately shut the TV off (awkward) upon entering the room. The first woman came into the interview, sat down, then turned the TV back on (I was feeling a little suspicious at this point). I felt the interviews were going well for the most part. I came from an already experienced background in TV production and felt more than qualified to be in consideration. I like to think of myself as a kind, open-minded, and a hard working person. After the first 4 interviews, 2 Hours later, the hiring manager came in and just ripped into me. I remember her using the word arrogant, she grilled me on SCRUM and Agile business methodologies (when I told her over the phone that wasn't background), she never asked a question about my experience, and it was as if she had been listening to me all along. When she left the room I felt so small and deflated (And when I say left the room she ran out out of the room not even thanking me for my time). I had an interview with the two top managers that went equally as bad. They behaved like 'reality tv producers' and it felt like most of the people I met there were new to production themselves and still figuring out their job. They needed an experienced coordinator to get them organized. After the 6 interviews were over the recruiter came in for an exit interview which I can remember telling her I knew I didn't get it and then she proceeded to tell me what the pay was and it was borderline criminal. After all was said and done I was sad because I knew I didn't get it, I was disappointed because it wasn't what I wanted it to be, and I was confused because I had to ask myself after that experience; "Do I even want to work for those people?" I love Overwatch and I love the community but learn from my mistakes and prepare yourself for reality. The dream of Blizzard is amazing but poorly represented by certain hired individuals and that's the reality for most dream companies. I am so glad this job did not work out for me even though I thought I wanted it more than anything. I work at Disney now where I had a much better interview experience with a much more talented department. I wish the coordinator they hired for Overwatch League the best of luck because that person is being overworked and underpaid and I can guarantee this person is not being treated appropriately. I hope this helps people prepare themselves a little bit more than I was and remember not every experience is the same.
