I internally transferred through the internship program. The internship program's interview was very straightforward, they asked me about my resume, my research and my prior work experience. They also asked me some behavioral questions.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Boeing in Nov 2011
Interview
The hiring process includes a phone interview, a panel interview. All offers made are contingent on passing a drug screening.
The standard Boeing interview process consists of answering the same ~7 questions all the other applicants have answered. These tend to be vaguely worded question relating you previous experiences with how you would handle typical day-to-day situations. An example might be "Describe a situation where you had to explain something technical to someone lacking subject matter expertise." or "Describe a time you argued about something (technical) and were wrong, and how you handled the situation."
The group I hired into requested a one hour "job" talk, which is in line with industry norms for research positions for Applied Mathematicians. There was also a meet and greet with the potential co-workers. Boeing regulations limit the questions the current employees can ask, so this is really an opportunity for the applicant to show interest in the kind of work being performed, as well as discussing technical matters not covered the panel interview or in the job talk. I enjoyed participating in this process, and now as an employee being on the other side of the table as well.
