      Financial Analyst Interview

      5 Mar 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Capital One in Sept 2017

      Interview

      1. Apply on university website, standard cover letter, resume, transcript. 2. First interview was a case study, received email notification that I passed. 3. Superday/3 interviews: 2 case studies, 1 behavioral for a total of 3 hours. First round interview was good. Aced that and it was simple compared to what came later. But the superday was really unorganized since I had to do it on Skype. Main issue - Poor logistics and organization of the superday: 3 different interviewers in 3 separate calls. Made the timing part a bit overwhelming because I wouldn't have a break in between any of the interviews unless I finished really quickly. I was thrown off in the first case study, but once that ended, the interviewer wasn't sure who the second interviewer was or if I should wait for their call. So I had to call them and confirm everything, and it was just very hectic. Then, the second interviewer had some technical difficulties, so I had to wait another hour for another interviewer to take his place. At this point, it was late for me because of the time difference, and I just wanted to finish as fast as possible. Other Concerns: - Very rigid process. For the behavioral part, it was really specific questions that weren't really appropriate for a university level student. But I managed to twist it and I did well on this part. Same goes for the case studies. For me some questions had ambiguous language, and I interpreted it differently, but they only accept the answer on their paper. I'm confident my thinking process was solid, just the answer was different or I asked too many clarifying questions. They should be a bit more flexible and considerate, especially on Skype! All in all, I feel that they look for one type of profile, which I don't think bodes well for any organization because everyone is a clone. Might as well hire robots to do the calculations for you because I don't think it requires much cognitive ability.

      Question 1

Behavioral: 3 situations (tell me a time when...failure, conflict, leadership, etc.) Case studies: don't remember much, but was somewhat ambiguous in language (maybe because it was on Skype as well and didn't have a paper copy of the case) - kind of unfair vs. in person interview. There should be some leniency for Skype case studies.

      Interview

Smooth; minicase is verbally presented; may be hard to understand depending on the interviewer. May need to ask many more questions to clarify the questions asked during the case. But overall, it is fairly easy
