I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Capital One
Interview
First code signal test. Then power day. The coding interviewer didn't even understand the question himself, kept asking me to explain to him how I think. I told him I need to initialize this service class so I can call the method from this class. He didn't get it. I had to move the screen up and down to find the lines and read the questions to him. At the end, he was talking to himself, they changed code a lot. Anyway, finally he got it, asked me to write the code. I just started writing, he told me time is up. I was confused. The time just passed half an hour. I thought it must be the end of this interview, so I said I got to go to the next one then. Turned out I still had half an hour left until the next one. Then the next lady came, her application was frozen for some reason, she had to keep trying, then she finally decided to reboot her computer. Overall, it makes feel that the company must have a very relaxed work environment so that the employees can afford to be careless sometimes. The interviewers all have worked there for quite long time.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
System design was design a banking system. Case study the same as previously mentioned. Coding question was very easy with a lot of wording. Too bad the interviewer didn't understand the question himself.
This took a bit longer than expected, stretching over several weeks. The technical rounds were intense, featuring an LRU cache implementation and a problem on detecting duplicate transactions within a 60-second window. I was nervous at first, but it clicked for me when I realized I had practiced a similar approach on PracHub just days before. Unfortunately, I didn’t receive an offer in the end, but the experience was a solid learning opportunity. The behavioral questions felt straightforward, so I wish I had made a stronger impression in the technical segments.
