Interview
Test / HR call / Panel interview * 4 There was a delay in moving forward to the next step. When I almost gave up this one and found another opportinity, they suddenly contacted and told me that it's time to move on. I still remember vividly one interview that the interviewer didn't show up at the meeting. At ths point, At ths point, I got a strong feeling that they did not fully manage the hiring process. Anyway, the other people at Epic Games I met with were nice and friendly and had passion about their work. If I knew that the hiring process took such a long time without clear timeframe from the beginning, I would not apply for the role. And two many steps in the hiring process are excessive and frustrating. It's waste of time for everyone.

Interview
Got contacted by an initial screener, it was a Zoom interview. Easy questions:
Tell me about yourself and why do you want to work for us.
Interview lasted about 15 minutes, very nice and conversational. Here is the important detail: The camera was off for both me and the nice lady. I moved to the second round of interviews, this time the camera was on for the interviewer, so I had to turn mine on (courtesy). Her face when she saw me... was a poem, she just couldn't hide the mixed surprise with disgust when she looked at me (and yes, I was on interview attire). I don't know if it was implicit bias, but from that moment on, her questions were the kind you can only answer if you are already working from inside the studio. Needless to say, I could only answer with more questions: What is your capacity? who are your subject matter experts? what is my influential scope? etcetera. I am a project manager and advanced scrum master, this is the first time I felt like my knowledge, experience and personality had little to do with the interview decision. My advice, keep your camera off. Implicit bias runs deep in the game industry (just look at the studio photos and try to find diversity).
