The recruiter asked challenging STAR questions in the phone screen which I found unusual. Then emailed me a list of 3 STAR questions that the hiring manager might ask in the next round. The hiring manager literally only asked those three questions in a very short 30 min interview. One of them was “tell me about a time you learned something new”, and I shared an example of a time I went out on my own and was resourceful to learn a new skill, and was successful at accomplishing that. The feedback I got was “you didn’t demonstrate enough that you were successful or could work autonomously.” Well… none of the questions actually asked those things (plus I do feel like I actually did demonstrate those regardless). Felt like a waste of my time.
