      Front End Web Developer Interview

      11 Mar 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Diego, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Intuit (San Diego, CA) in Jun 2017

      Interview

The interview process was set up through an agency and it started with a technical phone screen. I was excited about it till I realized they would not be evaluating the way I think and process as a developer. They were more interested in gotcha questions about specific pieces of CSS, HTML and Javascript syntax. I was not evaluated as an engineer but based on my skills of memorization, some questions were easy to answer but there were four in the row I just could not remember off the top of my head. Because no web developer develops without the internet for unimportant contrivances like that. The whole thing was strange and felt off, I asked one of my male friends in the field about the questions I was asked during this interview and he was confused. He felt honestly they were being sexist because he has interviewed for similar positions many times also being a front end web developer and never been asked questions like that. It felt off from the beginning, they were acting strange so hearing that from my male friend made me realize that yes I just had a sexist experience. A time where I was not properly evaluated as an engineer, instead forced to go through a humiliating regurgitation exercise.
