      Consultant Interview

      20 Oct 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Slalom in Oct 2017

      Interview

The interview process started out pretty normal, even enjoyable. I had a couple of phone interviews over the span of a few weeks. When it came time for my in-person interview, they were extremely flexible and accommodating. The interview went well until the last person I met with. He, first thing, admitted that he was not prepared for the interview and had not looked at my resume. He would ask questions and then cut me off as soon as I started to answer. He asked irrelevant questions and seemed disinterested. I did not let it get to me and proceeded with optimism, as I thought this would be a great place to work. For the technical interview, he only asked questions about things that were not on my resume. He then told me that he would not hire anyone without expert knowledge a specific software. Not only did this position not require knowledge in that software, it never appeared on my resume. They brought me in knowing that was not on my resume. I was informed a week later that because of my lack of experience with that software, that was never on my resume, I would not join the company. I felt great until that last interview. I feel that someone at his level in the company should be more respectful to others. I don't care if I am speaking to an environmental staff person or the CEO of my company, I speak to everyone with respect. I understand that it was intentional for him to make people feel uncomfortable and I know I handled it well...but it is inappropriate and reflects negatively on the company as a whole. My time is also precious, so I would appreciate an interviewee acting like the prepared and are engaged. In addition, do not bring a candidate in for an interview if you will later tell them that suddenly there is a requirement that was not mentioned in the four previous interviews and has never been on the candidate's resume.

I didn't look at your resume before this. Can you summarize it for me?

We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review of your experience interviewing with Slalom, and regret to hear that you did not have the positive experience we strive to give all of our candidates. You are absolutely correct that our interviewers should come prepared, respect your time, and that we should all be on the same page with regards to the published requirements of a role, and how those translate into the questions asked in the interview itself. Your feedback has been shared back with the team and is extremely valuable in our efforts to continuously improve; thank you again for sharing your thoughts.
