      Interview

The process to get hired with Synchrony is an incredibly interesting one! Do not expect for it to be a quick process by any means. The process itself though, is a relatively straightforward one. Initially, there’s not even an application. It’s basic information that is requested. You’re then invited to take an assessment. The assessment is not an easy one, but it is not difficult either. It uses an application called Pymetrics. There, it’s an assessment in the form of games and puzzles. I must say after about 10 minutes, I forgot I was actually taking an assessment for a potential employer; it was that interesting and engrossing. I believe you were immediately given your results and if you passed you’d be able to schedule the first phone interview and complete the application. My 1st phone interview was maybe a couple days after the assessment. The first phone interview was very basic. They provide the details of the position in depth, and ask you some generic situational and behavioral questions. Afterwards, they place you on hold and tell you they need a minute to decide. My interviewer came back maybe 2-3 min later, and said I was able to move forward to the next and final phone interview. HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART: there were no available time slots for an interview. So, I would need to check the site periodically for potential interview times. I really needed employment! When I tell you I check this site upwards of ten times a day for nearly three weeks…all I can say is I wish I was exaggerating! LOL I say this to say, do not get discouraged; simply keep checking regularly. After about three weeks, times became available and my final interview was maybe a week later. The final phone interview asked questions I had never heard before; at least worded in a way I had never heard them before. I practiced and researched for this interview as much as I could for a week and still felt ill-prepared. Perhaps, I was simply nervous. Should you need a restating of the questions-simply ask. The interviewers are dry yet amenable. Again, I did not think the interview went well at all. I told the interviewer I was bit nervous at the end of interview and asked if there was anything I could tell him to let him know that I am capable of excelling at this position. He responded by saying, he did not pick up on that I was nervous and that I articulated myself quite well. PEOPLE: I DID NOT! LOL The questions were so out of left field to me, I was definitely just rambling and fumbling over my words. What I think my saving grace was and he said as much after telling me he thought I did well, was that he was simply pleased that I remembered his name. He said most people who he interviews does not remember his name at the end of the interview, and that I used his name multiple times throughout the interview. Now, I could be wrong in thinking that’s what saved me, and he could have genuinely thought it was a good interview. I simply did not. I was so angry with myself after all of my preparation to be caught off guard my most of the questions. Many of which I don’t remember; that’s how much out of left field they felt to me. Anyways, after about 3 weeks of constantly checking the website, my email, and more phone calls to their potential employee service line than I’d care to admit for updates, I finally received an email. Remember earlier how I said this was an interesting process? Here’s another interesting part! The email said that the interview “did go well,” but that they had filled the position. As you can see, this interview is under the job title for customer service representative. I did not not initially apply for this role. I applied for a fraud position. The email said since that role had been filled and my interview did go well I had two options. I could wait for another fraud class to open up or I could simply accept the customer service representative position which already had a start date. I accepted the one I knew they had a start date for already; again, I needed a job and who knows when the fraud class was going to open. I am now waiting for the background to clear. I already did my fingerprints. I am simply waiting. Waiting is something you should prepare to be doing a lot of during this process. The timeline from me applying to being offered a position was exactly 8 weeks; with the job set to start nearly 6 weeks later. I know this was long, I simply wanted to be as detailed a possible. I know while I was interviewing, I wished some of these posts contained a few more details. Overall, the process was simple and straightforward as I stated earlier. The waiting was only a problem for because of my need. There’s a chance I was overthinking the second interview. Simply be polite and them know you believe this is something you can do and do it well. Synchrony seems like a great company. That may also be why I wanted it so bad. I wish you all the best.

The application process seemed highly disorganized. While all email interactions were cordial, my interview kept getting rescheduled on short notice. It was hard to get any clear answers. Felt more like pulling teeth, than a hiring process.

      Interview

Interview process was easy with basic customer service questions. Early interactions suggested a friendly culture, but extended training exposed stricter expectations and a less supportive environment than originally presented. Straightforward customer service questions. The culture initially felt friendly, but the tone shifted during the long training period. Expectations became less clear, and the environment felt more pressured than advertised.
