      Senior Writer/Editor Interview

      4 Feb 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Thumbtack (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2020

      Interview

I first applied for this role in October 2019. The interview process took three months with several interviews and a take-home assignment. However, two days before my scheduled final interview — in which I was supposed to present my portfolio for 45 minutes — the recruiter canceled the meeting, stating that they were no longer hiring for this role. This message came after I had already sunk hours of my time creating my presentation and taking time off of work for the interview day. Fast forward to October 2020, and I received a message from the previous hiring manager saying that they were hiring for the role again and asked if I was interested. I said that I was, and we kick-started the interview process. The recruiter was very kind at first and wanted to make sure that I had a better experience than last time. So a phone screen, two interviews — one of which I had to take the day off of work for — and a month later, I received an email from the recruiter saying that I did not get the role. The email stated that if I wanted feedback, they would be happy to give it to me. However, after I responded saying that I did indeed want feedback, I was completely ghosted. I hope that this company can get it together, but I can tell you that, after my experience, I'm sure that they're missing out on some great talent. To me, it's clear that they do NOT value their candidates' time. All I can say is that fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? Well, yeah, you can bet that I'll never trust the likes of Thumbtack ever again.
