      Senior Business Analyst Interview

      19 Oct 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Tredence in Oct 2020

      Interview

The interview started with an exchange of introductions. Once that was out of the way, the interviewer tried to understand my most recent project but explicitly told me that he has no idea what a "technical debt" is, so I explained it to him. Even though I thoroughly explained everything, he didn't seem to understand anything at all. He kept telling me the project was very "specific" and it seemed like he had zero knowledge about Analytics as a domain. He claimed that he was an "Analytics Consultant" but it didn't reflect one bit from his perception of my explanations. He was very keen on knowing the number of "rows" for each type of classification that had been performed on my recent project. He kept asking me about the no. of rows over and over again. It was apparently a technical round but I wasn't asked even a single question from R/Python. He moved to SQL and asked me if I had any knowledge about "Joins" to which I replied that I did. He moved to "Cartesian Joins" and asked me how to do it in Excel and I said that I can query it in SQL but I haven't used it in Excel, to which his response was -that's okay forget about "Cartesian Joins", tell me about "Cross joins". I was appalled at this question because both are essentially the same, but I paraphrased my answer and explained it to him anyway. He kept mocking me throughout the process which was pretty derogatory. It seemed like he didn't possess technical knowledge at all as he was searching up questions online, and asking me whatever came up on those search results. I could hear the constant typing and yawning. He seemed pretty uninterested in conducting the interview. The interview hardly lasted for 40 minutes and it seemed like the interviewer had conducted the interview, just for the sake of it. He had no intention of even considering me for the position and it seemed like he'd already made up his mind about it which was pretty clear from the interviewer’s attitude towards me and the rejection mail that followed within 5 minutes of the call drop. The experience was demeaning, derogatory, and disheartening. Will never even consider applying to the company again. An aspiring candidate invests so much time and effort, the company should try and consider that. They could have simply said that they've found the right candidate and that the position has been filled instead of making someone go through such a terrible experience.
