    High Quality Boutique Experience

    Pros

Rapid promotion path, high degree of Partner involvement in projects and interactions, opportunity to work on projects around the world all focused in high growth internet and digital infrastructure space, strong MBA and industry career paths

    Cons

Partners and Principals can get stretched thin by projects. Teams can be asked for fast delivery times to meet client needs. Mentoring asked to come from juniors but senior team will make time if junior takes action to set up meeting

    Beware of long hours

    Jul 22, 2021 - Consultant
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Very friendly people, team oriented culture, ability to progress / get promoted quickly, good vacation plan (for US standards)

    Cons

Very long workdays, unsustainable lifestyle, constantly understaffing and overscoping projects at the expense of teams, projects primarily consist of commercial due diligences (with PE or infra groups) leading to high burn sprints that often require weekend work

TMT grind, but can pay off

    Pros

    - Staff are incredible: hiring really cares about "fit" and it shows - Become reallyyyy good at Excel and Powerpoint - If you like telecom and tech infrastructure, you can really nerd out - Managers/Partners are higher quality (in terms of leadership, communication, and knowledge) than at peer firms - Weekly happy hour and firm outings pre-COVID were great - No rigid promotion timeline is better for meritocracy - Opportunities to learn Python and SQL

    Cons

    - Few opportunities for client interaction until you're a Manager (~5 years in) - Tough to make plans on weekdays, some weeks are 50 hours, some are 80+ hours - Telecom is incredibly white male dominated and CMA is no exception (although overdue progress is definitely being made at CMA) - Management did not handle transition to remote work very well- our hours definitely increased and there were no perks/benefits or any morale boosts

    Cons

Solid Consulting Experience, but Better Options Out There

    Aug 17, 2020 - Summer Analyst

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Bright people who work really hard. Established brand in the TMT industry with experienced leaders. Happy hours every Friday

    Cons

Very little mentorship and tough working hours. Several late nights in the office. Felt as if I was being used as cheap labor. Very little background on the industry, how things worked or expectations for performance. The oddest thing was that nobody ever talked during the work day, except over IM. Not a fun place to work by any means.

    Telecom Infrastructure Grind

    Nov 25, 2019 - Summer Analyst
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - smart and interesting coworkers among the younger staff - a growing firm with transfer options available among offices - good benefits - option to move up fast if willing to put in the hours and grind

    Cons

    - marketed as a "TMT" firm, they exclusively do telecom infrastructure projects - nearly all due diligence, strategy projects few and far between - culture is disjointed; management has inconsistent leadership styles (from door always open to door never open) - diversity is extremely lacking (besides international passports) - majority of projects coming in from (one) managing partner - attitude of several analysts is to get in and out of the office as fast as possible - general feeling of discontent and lack of passion for the work being done or the clients being served among analysts

    Rewarding and All-Consuming

    Pros

    - Fantastic, smart, hard-working peers that will drive and support you. - Exposure to some of the biggest names in PE, Sovereign Wealth, and Telecom. You will work on some headline deals, bigger than you would think at a firm this size - Project work that is maniacally detailed and engrossing. You will learn to see and solve problems in a deep and comprehensive way, and you will realize that not every job will train you in this way (even those at other consulting firms) - By and large a meritocracy, you do not advance based on tenure but rather by proving you can assume the responsibility expected at the next level - No office politics, no "caps" as to how many analysts get promoted to senior each cycle, etc. If everybody in the class is deemed to be ready, they will all be promoted. - Increasing focus on developing more advanced analytical skills (Python, SQL, GIS) which are marketable skills beyond consulting - Low to no travel (a perk, not really a pro)

    Cons

    - Having 60-70% of clients/projects in high finance means they will expect you to approach, if not match their hours - Very difficult to plan any sort of personal time as a result of hours - Projects are often understaffed, which Management sees as an opportunity for junior staff to "step up", but junior staff are tapped out as it is - Compensation is on the lower end of consulting firms - Path to promotion is clear, but some analysts are lucky to be staffed on projects that allow them to show they are ready for the next level, while others are not - Analysts with clear strengths in areas that are not quantitative (i.e. Research, surveys) get pigeonholed into doing those tasks, and are not given adequate opportunity to develop quantitatively (i.e. the stuff that gets you promoted)

    An MBA that pays you

    May 8, 2019 - Senior Analyst
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Learn how to become an expert in any market, quickly, and then how to pour through objective data to achieve meaningful insights for your clients. These are skills that will carry over into any future role and help diversify you. Work with and for some of the smartest people you will ever come across and be generously rewarded for your efforts. Develop the skills to research, analyze and present in a way that will serve you for life.

    Cons

You may be hit with a last-minute project, but that only helps the bonus pool
