Pros
It's a good job for lab experience. The days are typically busy and there's always something to do. You can ask for help on certain things if you do not understand them.
Cons
The team aspect of the lab is nonexistent. there is almost no communication between anybody and it's essentially every man for themselves. But don't worry, they'll have meetings about being team focused and then openly admit they don't do certain things. There's almost no training for lab maintenance or where to find things in the lab. However, you are still expected to help with the upkeep of the lab. Continuing on the no communication part, your coworkers do not specifically mention they would like help with certain closing down procedures. So, you may go home on time one day and they wanted help but no one will tell you that. Instead, they'll just lament over how they had to stay and help close down the lab. which brings up another point. Everyone is essentially coming in at 6AM or 7AM and there's no clear indication on who closes the lab. One would think that you would shut down things as you go, so that by the end of the day there is only one or two things to close down. However, no one seems to want to go by that method instead leaving everything for the end of the day. Which continues into the vicious cycle. There's a lab phone that you're expected to answer for the temperature monitoring system. They randomly assign you a week and you don't really get a say on it. So for that week after everyone is out of the lab you are expected to have the phone with you at all times and if anything goes wrong go into the lab and fix it. So, don't even think of having obligations outside of work during that week because if you can't just stop everything and go into the lab at a moment's notice you will get in trouble.
