Pros

Coworkers are generally the best part of Amazon. For how easy it is to get in (usually), the pay is rather alright. The work isn't especially difficult.

Cons

Performance is measured by scan rate, which means people who can't keep up aren't especially likely to get further training or transfers. Indirect work can play a part in your performance, but your supervisors have to take notice. While the work isn't difficult, if you have wrist/hand problems some if it can definitely get taxing if you try to keep up with rate on certain jobs. Amazon isn't especially transparent about a lot of the rationale behind policy, and don't always provide truthful answers. Whether or not that is policy or the person being misinformed isn't clear. While process assistants (essentially your direct supervisors) do help at times with work, they aren't very hands-on with their help a lot of the time. This wouldn't be a problem, but the various floor managers (the level above process assistants) claim that their job is to be hands-on with employees. There's either a disconnect here or "hands-on" is less than you'd think.

Pros

Really smart people, a lot of opportunity for growth, always encouraged to be innovative, think big, and create something new. Competitive salary and benefits with other major tech companies. 100% self motivating work environment. No dress code and 4 legged friends are welcome.

Cons

You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
