Pros

CEO vision is very positive. Benefits are great especially for long distance runners - someone who wants to possibly retire from this company. Nice health benefits, 401k match, fitness center, etc

Cons

Parking is extremely challenging - be prepared to walk close to a mile each way, often in freezing rain or snow. Access involves more than 50 steep, hazardous stairs, which makes the commute physically demanding. Many of the buildings appear very old and poorly maintained. Restrooms are unhygienic, carpets are stained and worn, and much of the equipment and control systems seem decades out of date. Even white-collar roles operate on a rigid shift system, with required start times as early as 7:00 AM. This can be particularly difficult for those with children or anyone who is not suited to early-morning schedules. If you are in an Information Technology role, most software development is offshored. Expect to work extensively with offshore teams, often aligned to their time zones and availability rather than local working hours. The organization is highly hierarchical, and this is reflected in day-to-day experiences such as parking access, seating arrangements, and the process for obtaining equipment.

Pros

Work-life balance has been great at the Long Beach site. My coworkers are very considerate and supportive. Benefits suck as parental leave and 401k, Roth 401k, and mega backdoor Roth make it so you can really get ahead in terms of retirement building. They are trying to get better in culture and performance rather than some companies that don’t even pretend to care. During the pandemic there was no training. Now there’s some!

Cons

Base pay can be slightly lower than other companies for specific skills. Each site and each organization within each site has its own culture depending on who is the VP/executive team. There are so many executives it’s hard to get things done. Things move very slowly.
