Pros
I work at a subsidiary of Elsevier. The salary is competitive for an editorial position. The benefits are decent. The company is relatively frugal but does not seem to have layoffs.
Cons
My subsidiary, Elsevier Business Intelligence, has been part of Elsevier for more than 15 years, but little has been done to integrate our operations into the rest of the company. I do not see any real opportunities to move to other parts of the larger company, and very few people have been promoted even within my own division in the past five years. The HR representation is generally unresponsive and apathetic. Our subsidiary's leadership is in another office in another state, and we are typically kept in the dark about what's going on with the company. Leadership visits to our office of approximately 35 employees are rare, as are company status conference calls that at one time were supposed to be quarterly.
