Pros

The colleagues that I worked with that were really interested in delivering value were great people. Unfortunately, they were the only sane people in an asylum run by the inmates and as such, the value that they worked to deliver would never see the light of day because of the risk-adverse culture and the bureaucratic cluster-bleep that has been fostered and rewarded for so long.

Cons

Too many to list and I don't think it's any surprise that everyone else hasn't realized. GE is still operating with a management structure that was put in place in the 60's and hasn't really evolved since. Their management is essentially driving the company into the ground and as such, it cannot attract, hire, or retain high performing people to help the company be successful into the 21st century. GE hires and fires people so frequently and often and is so shortsighted and run by making quarter-to-quarter analyst expectations, there's absolutely no way they're going to be able to rebuild for the long-term as long as these short-term goals are driving their business decisions.

Thank you for your detailed critique. GE's going through quite a bit of change as you know, and that includes changes in leadership. We hope to address some of the concerns you mentioned as our plans move forward.
