Pros

The other staff ( store assistants ) were friendly, and the customers also. It's a great place to work if you fancy losing a bit of weight - a 12 hour shift of constant hard physical graft and sweating makes you really shed the pounds :-)

Cons

Long hours, minimum wage. Rotas change at very short notice. You're expected to work at a very fast rate. Don't get me wrong, I'm not afraid of hard work, but there are limits on how quickly one can unload a pallet full of heavy tinned goods. Working on the tills, if your scan rate is not fast enough you get a reprimand from the managers. Despite the fact that this is usually due to circumstances outside of your control, e.g. waiting for a customer to return to the store to get an item they've forgotten. Due to the speed you're attempting to work at, mistakes sometimes happen at the tills. End of the shift, if your till is short it's docked from your wages. If it's over, the company keeps the extra. You're barely allowed to socialise with your colleagues - if you're caught chatting, even whilst you're busy stacking shelves, it's another rebuke from the manager. The extremely high staff turnover speaks for itself really, there's a reason most people don't stick it out for more than a few months.

Pros

Benefits are excellent, most people at the peer level are great. Clear performance expectations. Decent cross functional communication

Cons

Company leadership very European and doesn't quite understand the American consumer even after being in the US so long. Unreasonable expectations are the norm. No upward mobility unless you are European or speak fluent German.
