Pros
- Very relaxed environment - Work/life balance never an issue - Looks good on a resume
Cons
Compensation is nowhere near competitive for the industry. Raises basically don't happen outside promotions unless you get an external offer, and even then promotion raise percentages are very low. Upward mobility is also all about who you know, not your performance. Brain drain happening over the last few years is readily apparent, and a direct result of IBM. Where most IBM acquisitions get "blue washed" quickly, Red Hat has been a slow burn that in recent years has started to pick up momentum. Culture is a ghost of its former self - years of nepotistic management promotions have left most middle and director levels completely devoid of competency.
