Good if you want to work on open source, but run by some dinosaurs - Senior Software Developer Red Hat Employee Review

Pros

You want to work on Open Source, you want to work on open source in the Boston Area, you would rather not be managed on a microscale (Red Hat promotes effective anarchy amongst developers, its like 80% time vs. Google's 20%). If you are able to push through ideas, even the most junior people can be involved in high level decisions, but upsets from upper management and defocuses are to be expected.

Cons

Low pay, chaotic execs harvested from the old-school dinosaur Unix companies that RH buried (think, DEC). We used to call the engineering org "DECHat", vacation time is frequently required to "make quarterly earning projections", and management is overly focused on stock price.

Pros

Extremely talented and motivated people Great product and ecosystem around Kubernetes

Cons

Bluewashing is real. After 4 years past acquisition it is not Open Decision company anymore. There is no clear communication about the direction where the company goes, some departments were moved to IBM without clear explanation why. Promotion process that was clear before is gone, and now your salary increase or promotion are directly depend on your relationship with the manager and not from your contribution to the team or the product.
