If you have ambition and a desire to progress in your career Workday isn’t the company to provide it. Unless you are willing to brown nose your manager and the immediate leadership around you you’ll be going nowhere fast during your time here. Progression is not about whether you can do your job well it’s about playing the right political moves and doing what people ask you to do. Sometimes that can seriously conflict with what’s actually right for the business and customers, but if you want to progress, you have to do it to keep people happy as your manager holds all the keys to your path forward. If your manager or director leaves, tough luck start the brown nosing again. The promotions work like a competition, you’re all force ranked and then compete against one another for the limited number of promotions they give. It’s led to a horrible, jealous environment. Likewise, you’re also competing against your own manager who clearly would also like a promotion. If they promote you, it’s in the knowledge it might mean they can’t get a promotion so it’s not in their favour to do so and if you miss out you’ll have to wait until next year for a shot as they only promote in April each year.
Since the old CEO has returned he has consistently, in every employee communication, said he wants us to return to a values driven company with how they treat employees at the heart of it. Its been 3 months now and all we’ve seen is some Workday branded swag… Leadership are consistently asking us to work at a faster pace and deliver more like a “startup” whilst depriving employees of a startup like experience.
