Pros

I started with Zillow 7 years ago when the culture was incredible and opportunities felt limitless. I got the chance to work with some of the most intelligent, hard working, inspiring people that have continued to be mentors even after working directly together. I'm so thankful for encouraging people I met early in my career that believed in me and helped my career trajectory. I started as an entry level IC and left being a senior manager. I'm so grateful for Zillow for that opportunity. The benefits are great and you can't beat the work/life balance.

Cons

Unfortunately Zillow is not the same company it once was in terms of people and culture. So many wonderful senior leaders left due to the politics and and lack of integrity and transparency. This had resulted in many new executive leaders that are not culture carriers and negativity impact Zillow as a whole. One of Zillow's core values is 'turn on the lights' meaning to be transparent. This could not be anymore ironic as I've never worked with less transparent people in my life. It's incredibly disorganized at a senior management+ level and feels like no one knows what's actually going on or what even the vision is anymore. Senior leaders are only transparent at a retroactive level and are not upfront with changes coming and how they will impact folks at a team level. There was a lot of deception and empty promises. Although I'm thankful for my team at Zillow, leaving was a great decision for both my career and personal core values. Additionally, the compensation was very low compared to other companies. If you get promoted, you can expect to be paid 15-20% less than people hired externally. When the pay inequality was addressed the executive leader completely brushed it off.

Pros

Very collaborative team, encouraging team members and managers. Great experience overall.

Cons

Because most people work remote, sometimes it can be hard to meet immediately to chat.

Pros

You can make good money here.

Cons

In sales, job can change often. For example: I was making good money and excelling because I am a relationship Sales person. Then they changed it to where you get the sale, and instead of being able to grow that account via that relationship you just broke into, you have to pass it to an account manager and go back to cold/robo calling. You "book" of business you recive to prospect from is a lottery. I received a book of prospects/accounts that most of the were low income, or senior living properties. They don't have a budget and have a line of renter on a waitlist. No way to convince them to spend money on advertising but you still have the same quota.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed perspective. We understand that frequent changes to roles, account ownership and business priorities can have a real impact on relationship-building and the day-to-day experience in sales. We’re glad to hear compensation was a positive part of your time at Zillow, and we appreciate you being candid about where the model and structure felt frustrating. Feedback like yours helps us better understand how these changes are experienced across teams as the business evolves.
