Good experience, young managers & office
14 Mar 2023 - Sales Representative in Tampa, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I loved my co-workers they were all similar in age and experience. They made it feel like a welcoming environment and positive. Great training experience - they will fly you to headquarters for training in your first two weeks and again in your first 6 months. Opportunity to be promoted in the first 2 years - will still be facing very very high standards.
Cons
I never got the company car as promised even though I surpassed my first 90 days and exceeded all sales goals needed. Even when you make sales and exceed goals, they will continue to threaten to put you on an action plan even if you are working to reach goals (this does not change throughout the first 5 years you are working for them). The expectation is 70 calls per day - 350/week even after 90 days. Additionally 4-5 meetings ran per week with a proposal every 2 weeks. Management is very very young and does not necessarily have the experience or support to run a team or start their own office (most managers are promoted early and given an office to run as it is a fast growing company) Manager would not let you leave until 5 PM on the dot even though most sales roles do not work like that.

Great Company to work for!
3 Mar 2023 - Sales Representative in Detroit, MIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I recently left my position as a Sales Representative at GMS in Detroit to pursue my dream career, and I must say that I had a wonderful experience working for this company. I would like to specifically highlight my experience with my manager, Brandon, who was incredibly supportive throughout my tenure at the company. Brandon was an excellent manager who always provided me with the tools and resources needed to succeed in my role. He was always available to answer any questions I had and provide guidance whenever necessary. Brandon was not only a great manager but also a great mentor who helped me develop my skills as a sales professional. In addition to the support I received from Brandon, I was also impressed by the company culture at GMS. The team was positive, collaborative, and focused on achieving success together. The company also provided excellent benefits and compensation, which made my experience even more positive. Although I have left GMS, I have no doubt that the company will continue to thrive under the leadership of Brandon and the rest of the management team. I would highly recommend GMS to anyone looking for a positive and rewarding work experience in sales. Thank you, Brandon, and the entire GMS team for a wonderful experience!
Cons
Its sales, its a grind. If you're looking to get into this role you should be all in. If you're willing to work hard and grind GMS will reward you greatly

Unparalleled Employee Investment
16 Mar 2023 - Sales Representative in Cincinnati, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
This is the best company I have ever worked for. They invest in their employees through training, benefits, and technology to make your job easier. it is a fantastic company to grow with especially if you are starting in a new industry or are right out of college. The leadership team all the way up are star players. They not only focus on KPIs but they genuinely care about their employees. They offer fantastic benefits as well. My co-workers made the fun and supportive. I just cannot say enough positive things about this company.
Cons
The KPIs are really difficult for some people to reach in 90 days. Management helps you along the way so be sure to stay in communication. The daily call goal can become tedious, make sure you find a way to make it fun for yourself!

A Great Company- Challenging Role
15 Mar 2023 - Sales RepresentativeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
GMS has fantastic benefits, including company car, cell phone reimbursement, affordable health insurance, and what I thought was a great base pay for sales reps. Everyone I interacted with from management, trainers, and marketing were very kind and enthusiastic. Training was pretty intense- if you are not in Cleveland they send you there for a week for a full classroom training experience at HQ. The role is a typical sales role- massive cold call numbers to mostly disconnected or out of business people. They do provide a great phone script and great objection handling training to help overcome some of the common sales issues. They also have lots of technology to help you learn and receive feedback.
Cons
Ultimately, the role/sales in general wasn't for me. They are incredibly transparent about the first year of employment being challenging- do not take this lightly if you are thinking of working here. If you are willing to sacrifice about a year of stress for money, you will do fine in the role. I was, admittedly, not cut out for it. It is extremely mentally draining to cold call, have meetings rescheduled constantly, and deal with leaving the workday with no positive results, and it is a hard service to sell. Gratification is delayed, so it takes months of pushing each day. Sales cycles are on the longer end, but their compensation structure makes it worth it. The company takes care of its people- it just wasn't the career for me. As an aside, the culture was a bit out of my taste. Lots of young professionals straight out of college- others that have commented of a fraternity atmosphere are accurate. At the end of the day, the people in my office got their work done regardless, so it wasn't a huge issue.

Pros
Working from home would have been a nice pro head I ever been able to achieve it. They like to move the gold post over and over again and then give you small made up reasons as to why you're not eligible. I talked to multiple coworkers about this and they all agreed they had the same problem.
Cons
Working at this company has given me the worst possible burnout and anxiety I've ever experienced. I still have nightmares that I am working here months later. This company is just like being in high school. It's full of cliques and gossip. Certain departments are given better benefits and higher pay. Other departments work their butts off and don't see any type of raise or increase in benefits including getting to work from home or not having to drive to work in a snow storm. The sales department is treated the best out of all the departments. Even down to the attire guidelines, encouraging female employees to wear revealing clothes to work in order to increase their sales. The company itself doesn't work as a team because there is a hierarchy to the departments. Everyone claims that a specific task isn't theirs and tries to push it off to another department. Management does the same thing. The company tries to draw you in with promises of free lunch, a gym, parties, alcohol, remote working and vacation time. But none of this us enjoyable when you hate your job and stress to get through the day. Stress when you're home worrying about what mess will need cleaned up tomorrow and if anyone can help you with it. Training for every department seems to be very quick and very stressful. They throw you into helping customers as fast as possible. If you feel lost or need help asking your department or others feels like a bother. Every single person at this company is stressed out and overworked and unfortunately sometimes a customer or another employee feels the heat from it. If you think you won't take your work home or work overtime every week you're wrong. The expectations are a joke. You're not salary even if they told you the position was. They're strict on you maintaining your 40 hours a week when you're given more work than you can do in that time. I could go on and on about the issues with this company because we aren't even at the halfway point. Don't work here.

The majority of all our roles are hybrid, however, they are also performance-based. So, if you didn't have the option to work from home, it seems you weren't meeting the requirements to have that perk. These claims have 0 merit and we would love the opportunity to correct your allegations. Please give us a call!

Pros
This place makes you realize how terrible a job can really be and that makes you grateful for other jobs.
Cons
You should be able to rate this company zero stars. They treat their employees like trash. Turn-over is VERY high.. hmmm I wonder why. Their technology is embarrassingly bad. There is little to no diversity at this company. They send company wide emails telling employees to give them good ratings on Glassdoor. Pathetic. I still have PTSD from this place. Don’t work here, you deserve better.
Group Management Services Response
Thank you for your review. Yes, we do have KPIs in place to remove those who are not meeting expectations within their role, which can contribute to turnover but is intentional as it weeds out those who are not succeeding. Contrary to your opinion, our technology is outstanding, both the software we sell AND the software we utilize. We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to continue to offer the best. We don't ask for "good ratings," we simply ask for ratings in general so we can get a pulse on employee feedback.
