The ideas are good, the execution not so much

Pros

Culture is good, friendly employees. The company sets up good opportunities for training and learning. Good health benefits. Great company parties.

Cons

The direction is not fully defined and tends to change regularly, ultimately trickles down the chain of command, where management needs to tell employees one thing only to have it change because upper management does not know the direction. Way too many meetings. Lots of "hurry up to wait" projects, due to one reason or another. The company will claim that there is room for advancement, truth is that advancement is slow, management positions tend to be hired from outside than from within.

Pros

good compensation and benefits, hybrid model

Cons

Prana had one of the most toxic work environments i've ever experienced. After the company was bought by columbia horrendous management was brought, people with no connection to the outdoor or yoga lifestyle making all of the decisions, and all bad ones. product has suffered due to this for a long time now. Anyone showing initiative to improve product or culture is perceived as a threat and pushed out of the company. Feedback is regularly requested but giving any negative feedback will have repercussions. Its very sad this used to be one of the best places to work and now it's the worst. How the leadership at this company is continuing to support terrible middle management is beyond my comprehension and massively affecting the company bottom line. Prana is hemorrhaging money and doing layoffs every few months, and with every round of layoffs people are quitting because its the best people being removed from the company.

Pros

This has been one of the best jobs I've had. Personally, I was surrounded with great management and a wonderful sales team. I could not speak higher of the employees at the store I was in. It really felt like a family environment within the store. Pleasant to go to work everyday, boosts and encouragement when you needed it, etc. Benefits were great and the company offers a good deal to buy current seasonal products. The discount is also very generous and almost unheard of within retail companies. Work life balance was a little tricky during holidays but overall, very understanding of personal life situations. Pay is very good for retail (we were paid once a week during my time here) and the bonus incentives are attainable and a great add on to your paycheck. Most everyone from corporate that I met was pleasant and knew your name.

Cons

No major problems during my time here other than typical retail woes. Sometimes it's slow and you can't make your personal goal for the day. It depends who your manager is but mine understood that we were all hard workers and tried our best everyday. I can see where the personal sales goals would become a problem for others with the wrong team and manager. Close to the time I left things started to change a little bit. Home office lost a bit of it's friendliness and started to become the "corporate" environment that I don't think it wanted to become. We had a visit from some people at home office and not one of them bothered to introduce themselves to me or the sales associate on duty. While the store manager was on a phone call in back, they sat in our comfy chairs and kept to themselves instead of interacting with us or even just shaking our hand. It was like we weren't good enough to talk to. In the past during these visits, everyone was warm and wanted to talk to you and get your opinion on the store, on foot traffic, on the product line. It was very off putting. This same scenario happened again before I left and it was just...well... it made me feel like I wasn't part of prAna.

It could be a "Dream Job"

Pros

Emphasis on maintaining work/life balance, focus on the positive customer experience, mostly fair trade and organic product inventory, relaxed corporate culture that truly encourages maintaining personal wellness and living life outdoors, open communication about all company goals, benefits after 30 days as a full time employee, cool perQ's (perks) that include discounts, bonuses, and gym memberships

Cons

It *could* be a "Dream Job" provided more training and development happened at the retail level - some employees seem frustrated that their position feels as though it's staying static, and some employees who hold management positions have things that they could fine tune in order to create a more positive work environment

Pros

Benefits, Nice & friendly coworkers , Remote

Cons

Poor management, lack of support from anyone higher up than you, PTO policies and procedures are frustrating and leaves you feeling guilty for requesting it. E-commerce policies are very unprepared and terrible for customers, leaving them upset and they take it out on you, the representative. Escalations really affect everyone’s mental health here and it is not validated nor empathized by management.
