Getting books to Ukraine’s displaced children. Elsevier employees are working with Ukrainian publishers to get books printed and into the hands of the children of refugees. Agnieszka Freda, an Executive Publisher at Elsevier writes, "Two years of COVID was tough on all of us, but as it turned out, it had nothing on me compared to the first two weeks of the war in Ukraine. I’m an Executive Publisher responsible for a portfolio of psychiatry journals at Elsevier. I am originally Polish, forming what you could call a European family in the Netherlands with my Spanish life partner. The only thing that mattered was that there was a war on our doorstep ..."

“It felt like returning home”: Why I’ve come back to work at Elsevier. Three years ago, Jess Pritchard left Elsevier for a role at a large telecommunications company. It was an excellent opportunity for her to develop her skill set, but she missed the sense of purpose of working at Elsevier. As she explained: "I quickly discovered that I am mission-driven, and helping large corporations acquire telecommunications resources wasn’t inspiring for me." Life as a software engineer at Elsevier. Elsevier Software Engineer, Alex Pope of Oxford, UK, writes about using cutting-edge technology in an Agile environment, with access to resources that help him continue his development. "Try turning it off and on again." So said Roy from The IT Crowd. For those unfamiliar with the British sitcom, it was a program about two technicians. Their day job involved much mindless repetition, but they also got themselves into various amusing scrapes. We’ve all been on projects like that, minus the amusement.
