      Associate Consultant Interview

      19 Sept 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Dubai
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Bain & Company (Dubai)

      Interview

Two 45-minute 1st round case interviews that were conducted via phone with two Managers from the office. A few get to know you questions followed by a short case. Questions were not easy and you had to really think on your feet. The key is to sound organized whatever you say and use a structure (which may change) throughout the entire case. At the end there was time for questions. Have a lot of THOUGHTFUL questions prepared...not questions you can get an answer to on the website. They are interviewing you to see if you could be a consultant. Think like a consultant and ask questions consultants are interested in. The final round was held in the office and consisted of three one-on-one interviews with a Manager and then two Partners. The interview with the Manager was surprisingly the hardest of the three. The case didn't go perfectly so I was a little worried about it. The interviews with the Partners had a very informal feel. With one of them we just talked about Bain, consulting, the region and life for the better part of 40 minutes. Finally at the end he talked to me about a case he did and asked me a couple questions. Partners are really looking for different things than everyone else. They want to see if you present yourself well, are professional, and client-friendly. I think Bain (perhaps more than McK or BCG) assumes they've tested your analytical and quant skills sufficiently in previous rounds. Bain is much more concerned about cultural fit than the others. Having interviewed with all three, I will say that I think Bain's cases are relatively easier.
