      Support Engineer Interview

      9 Jul 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Cambridge, MA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA) in Apr 2016

      Interview

I had an incredibly positive interview process. My recruiter, Noah, was very friendly and helpful throughout and made me feel very comfortable going into each of my interviews. This was my first time working with a recruiter and it definitely made me feel a lot less nervous and more informed about how I was doing. The first interview was probably the most difficult, from a standpoint that it was slightly awkward filming myself alone. The employees of HubSpot who interviewed me were engaging and fun to talk to, which was not a surprise due to the nature and reputation of the company. My biggest piece of advice going into the interview is to take advantage of your recruiter and ask any questions about the company you might have! Hearing about Noah's experience with the company helped me better understand what kind of employee they are looking for.

So happy to hear that you're also a member of the Noah Fan Club (I'm also a card-carrying member) and that you joined our team, we are delighted you did! I agree with you that the video interview can be awkward, but I'm glad you made it through (if you have additional tips we should share with candidates, send them my way and we'll include them along with Noah's blog post on how to prep). Most importantly, you're joining one of the most important teams in our organization on support, thank you in advance for the impact you're going to have on our business and our customers! -Katie

      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA) in Nov 2016

      Interview

I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter via e-mail. She sent along information about a video interview, although after some confusion I actually never ended up completing it and moving forward anyway. The recruiter and I had an informal phone conversation, after which she put me forward to a second round. I had to prepare three technical tasks before the second round, which consisted of two half-hour Google hangout sessions. One of the hangout sessions consisted of a screen-share where I explained how I completed the tasks. I heard back a few days later that I was invited to a third round of in-person interviews at the Cambridge office. When I came into the office, I spoke to three different support managers for a half-hour each and was given a tour of the office. My interview was on a Friday and they got back to me with an offer by the following Wednesday!

      Support Engineer Interview

      27 Sept 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Portsmouth, NH
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Portsmouth, NH) in Sept 2016

      Interview

I applied online and was contacted by email to complete a short video interview. After a few days, I was contacted by a recruiter to have my first phone interview. Then, I was contacted to schedule my two google hang out interviews. One interview was a very casual conversation and the other was to see my technical skills with the software. Lastly, I was contacted to come up to Portsmouth for my final interview. This consisted of 3- 30 minutes interviews. Overall, even though the interview process was long, I never felt lost along the way. The recruiters did a fantastic job at staying in contact and keeping me in the loop. In the end, I declined the offer because it would have involved me moving from Maryland. HubSpot is an awesome company! This was not an easy decision to make and I would most definitely pursue them in the future if the timing is right for a move.

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at HubSpot (Portsmouth, NH)

      Interview

A few rounds of interviews with direct managers for the role as well as other mangers and a skills test. Really engaging questions, not the typical one in interviews. I think the unique questions ultimately gave me the opportunity to present a much more dynamic version of myself than other interviews. Everyone I spoke with had clearly already read my resume and had specific questions. The skills test was really helpful to get a feel for the technology and then having to explain the process really helped frame what the job would entail. Absolutely fantastic environment and people, really interesting conversations, amazing opportunity.
