I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at J.P. Morgan in Nov 2009
Interview
I was initially offered an interview through my university's career services page. After meeting with an MD and a more junior member of the team I was not offered a position. The interview was fairly short with some simple finance questions (run through a DCF) and a brainteaser (sum of digits 0-50) and some fit type questions related to my resume. About a month later I received a call from the MD where he proceeded to chat me up for a few minutes about how school was going before informing me I was not granted a position.
The interview process was excellent and highly professional. They focused entirely on relevant, market-specific questions that perfectly aligned with current industry standards. This allowed me to thoroughly discuss my background and demonstrate how my specific work experience directly relates to the role. Overall, it was a comprehensive and well-structured conversation that gave me a great opportunity to showcase my expertise and professional value.
3 rounds, HR and then call with a fellow senior analyst, and then superday. It was pretty relaxing and mainly behavioral. It was mainly to gauge if you were a good fit.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How do I work in a team? How is the market currently?
HireVue video interview: 3–4 questions with short prep time per question. These are mainly behavioral/fit. Then analyst phone screen covering behavioral fit and some technical fundamentals. Then in person assessment day where I had multiple in-person interviews testing technical , market knowledge, behavioural as well as cultural fit.
