The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at KPMG (Oranjestad) in Feb 2009
Interview
The process was fairly strait-forward. I was met by the Regional Manager and after speaking with him for about 45 minutes I was asked to return for another interview later on in the week.
We met in his office at the corporate building. I arrived early and waited in the reception hall where they had a young lady answering the phone. After the Manager arrived I was led into his office. One side consisted of various books and publications related to the industry, and the rest of the office was sparse but professionally decorated.
I was offered some refreshments but declined and the process started right away. The manager asked about my recent work experience and education. He also wanted to know about my interests in the industry and in the position specifically. I could tell he was not a professional HR person, but well prepared for the questions expected from an interviewer. I was also asked about my short-term and long-term goals. If I was willing and able to travel between the islands for work. The interesting part of the this first interview was who I knew via family or friends or other associates. In other words, did I have any connections with the local governments and/or any other influential persons of interest. This is the islands after all and who you know is much more important than what you know.
The second interview was more technical. It came a few weeks after the first one and seemed a little long in between. I was met by the same manager that did my first interview, but he was only there long enough to shake hands and pass me over to the person who would be my direct supervisor (should I be offered a job). The second person' s office was much more modern, a nice desk with a computer, and a couple of chairs for visitors. The Supervisor's interview was more detailed in what was expected of me as an consultant. He also asked me questions like what would I do in this type of situation and what would I advise someone given these circumstances. In short he was testing me to see how would I respond in certain positions.
After the second interview I was told that they had taken on someone else for the position but they liked me and would be in contact if the first person did not work out or if another position became available.
